Rover Info
I am
researching a 1933 Rover Speed 20 – Hastings
Coupe that my dad has in a semi-unrestored
state. In 1980 my dad bought this vehicle off
Ray & Wendy Muddell as a ‘pile of parts’. The
car was completely dismantled and over the next
few years to 1984, he had restored the chassis,
gearbox, engine and running gear. The woodwork
was also re-assembled and the aluminium body
‘tacked’ into position so you could tell what it
was meant to look like. Since 1984 it has sat
quietly in the shed.
So far I have found out that
this is thought to be last remaining one of
these cars in the world – with only around 100
ever made. It was owned by Otto Stone around the
late 1940’s and also by John Cummins in the late
1970’s (in a dismantled state). Another fellow
named William Sparrow also owned the vehicle
after Otto Stone before trading it in
around the mid 50’s.
If anyone has any further information or photos
of the vehicle (through Otto or John’s
scrapbooks, or any new information etc), it
would be of enormous help. I have attached two
photos of the car. One when Otto owned it in the
late 40’s, and one of what it looks like in
dad’s shed today.
